Innovate Club Shortlisted For National Award

Students from one of our co-curricular clubs have been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The four Y9s attend our Innovate Club, which encourages them to come up with their own unique product or service and bring it to market. Using this brief, they have come up with a reimagined version of the classic game ‘tiddlywinks’, which is made up entirely of recycled materials.

This concept has since been recognised by the V&A Innovate National Schools Challenge, with the team now invited to attend the finals in London in March to pitch their idea to a panel of judges.

The tiddlywinks themselves are made of recycled bottlecaps, and the group are now leading a recycling drive in school to encourage people to drop their used drinks bottles in specially-created bins to collect as many caps as they can. They have also been invited to collaborate with Stockport Council and local social enterprise Plastic Shed to create a plastic bottle mural in the town!

Mrs Shahlavi, who runs Innovate Club said: “The girls involved have worked really hard to bring their idea to life and have put an awful lot of time and effort into developing the concept – I couldn’t be more proud with what they have achieved so far.

“To be invited to the V&A Innovate finals in London is the cherry on the cake, and I am really excited to see just how far this group of talented students can go!”
