Stockport Academy Pays Respects During Poppy Drop

Our whole school came together to pay our respects to those who have served the country during conflict as part of our annual Poppy Drop.

The ceremony is a Stockport Academy tradition that has taken place for many years, and it remains a poignant yet inspiring date in the school calendar.

Once every year group had lined up in the atrium, Mrs McCann introduced the ceremony by reading a short passage of text before Music Teacher Ms Wright played 'The Last Post' on her bugle. Students who were members of the cadets or scouts were allowed to attend in their uniform, and observe proceedings from the atrium balcony.

An impeccably-observed minutes' silence followed, before KS4 students who had gathered in the corridors on the first and second floors of the school silently dropped poppies to the ground.

You can watch a video of the event on our Twitter page, here.

Principal Mrs McCann said: "It is so important that we recognise the sacrifices that so many people have made in order for us to live in freedom today, and it is a great honour to be able to do that through our Poppy Drop as a school community.

"I am proud of the respect all students showed this morning, and I hope that the memory of our Poppy Drop is something that stays with all of our students well beyond their time at Stockport Academy."
